Johanna Larsson (born 17 August 1988 Boden, Norrbotten County) is a Swedish tennis player. Her career high ranking is World No. 46 on July 11, 2011.

Early career

Johanna began playing international tennis on the ITF junior circuit, where she reached a career-high junior ranking of 79 in September 2006. During the Fed Cup in 2005 she began her quest for recognition by defeating Anna Kremer, Johanna went on to defeat Brenda Schultz-McCarthy and Joanna Sakowicz. Larsson was awarded a Wild Card for a WTA Event In Stockholm, Johanna beat Kristina Barrois in 3 sets before taking Swedish number 1 Sofia Arvidsson all the way before losing in 3 sets. Towards the end of 2006 Johanna had injuries regarding her hamstring she came back in early 2007 mainly in the USA beating Leanne Baker and Alla Kudryavtseva (Top seed at $25,000 Hammond). The Swede's excellent Fed Cup record has gained her a place in the team for a 3rd consecutive year. She won the $10,000 Falkenburg title 2 times in consecutive years beating Arvidsson in 2005. Johanna returned to Fed Cup again in 2007, losing to Maša Zec Peškirič and beating Vojislava Lukić and Naomi Cavaday both ranked in the top 300, giving Sweden 9th place.

2008

2008 has been Johanna Larsson's breakthrough year, winning two $25.000 ITF events in Stockholm and Sutton, she also made her Grand Slam debut at the French Open where she made the second qualifying round. Johanna went on to make the second qualifying round at Wimbledon and the US Open final qualifying round, in September Johanna also captured her biggest doubles title to date at the $75,000 Shrewsbury event. Johanna ended the season playing Swedish Team tennis for Helsingsborg alongside Sofia Arvidsson.

2009

Johanna began the year at the Australian Open, where she lost in the first qualifying round. Johanna was included in the 2009 Swedish fed cup team, along with Sofia Arvidsson, Sandra Roma and Ellen Allgurin. Larsson recorded a 3–1 singles win-loss record [including a win over top 70 player Monica Niculescu], and a 2–1 doubles win-loss ratio. After Fed Cup Johanna travelled to South America to play qualifying in two WTA events, In Bogotá Johanna had three wins in qualifying taking her into the main draw, where she lost to Carla Suárez Navarro. In her next tournament in Acapulco Johanna was forced to retire with a knee injury whilst trailing top seed Ágnes Szávay 3–6 0–1. A series of clay $25.000 events saw Larsson reach two finals, a semi and a quarter final. Johanna took the singles and doubles titles at the $50.000 event in Barnstaple, her best singles result in her career so far. Johanna then took another singles title at the $25.000 event in Glasgow, the following week Johanna made the final in Istanbul before losing to Maret Ani.

2010

Johanna started the year playing two $25,000 events in the United States; in the first tournament in Plantation Larsson made the final knocking out top seed Maret Ani en route, Johanna was beaten in the final by Ajla Tomljanović. In the second event in Lutz, Larsson made the quarter-finals where she was defeated by Mariana Duque Marino. Johanna stayed unbeaten in singles and doubles throughout the four ties she played in Fed Cup, Sweden won promotion to the World Group 2 playoffs. Unseeded in the $50,000+H tournament in Biberach tournament, Larsson was the winner (at the current time this is Johanna's biggest singles title). Larsson captured her 10th ITF singles title in Clearwater, taking the $25,000 title.

Larsson made her grand slam main draw debut at 2010 French Open; in the first round she defeated Anastasija Sevastova 6–2 6–2 before losing to Akgul Amanmuradova 7–6(2) 6–2 in the second round. Following Roland Garros Johanna played the $100.000+H tournament in Marseille, Larsson reach the finals but lost to Klára Zakopalová 6–3 6–3 and has already taken the doubles title with Yvonne Meusburger. She then fell in the first round of qualifying of the 2010 Wimbledon Championships.

She then fell in the first round of the 2010 Swedish Open to Renata Voráčová 6–3 2–6 6–4. At the 2010 ECM Prague Open, she reached her first WTA Tour quarterfinals after the withdrawal of top seed Lucie Šafářová in the second round but fell to Barbora Záhlavová-Strýcová 6–2 4–6 7–5 in the quarterfinals.

Larsson then continued her form at the 2010 Banka Koper Slovenia Open, as she defeated 8th-seeded countrywoman Sofia Arvidsson 7–6(1), 6–2 in the first round and Maria Elena Camerin 7–5, 6–1 in the second round. Then in the quarterfinals she caused a bigger upset, defeating 3rd-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6–3, 6–2 and Ksenia Pervak 6–2, 1–0 ret to reach her first WTA Tour Finals. However she lost to Anna Chakvetadze 6–1, 6–2. After this tournament she reached a career-high ranking of World No. 66.

Larsson then competed in the 2010 İstanbul Cup and defeated 8th seed Patty Schnyder in the first round 6–4, 6–2.

In Quebec City, she won her first WTA double title with Sofia Arvidsson.

2011

Larsson made it to the semifinals of the 2011 Abierto Mexicano Telcel. In Key Biscayne WTA she beat Li Na (tennis), she defeated former French Open Champion Ana Ivanović in three sets, 7–6(3), 0–6, 6–2 at the 2011 French Open in the 1st round, but lost in the next round.

At the 2011 Swedish Open, Larsson dominated Alla Kudryavtseva in the first round. She then defeated Vera Dushevina and Lourdes Domínguez Lino, winning both matches in three sets. In the semifinals, she easily beat countrywoman Sofia Arvidsson to advance to her second WTA Tour final, where she lost to 8th seed Polona Hercog in straight sets (6–4, 7–5). Also winning the Copenhagen WTA in doubles with German player Jasmin Wöhr.
